Massive I-T raids across India, new currency worth Rs 3.18 cr seized in Bengaluru, Panjim, Faridabad

In a raid in a hotel in Delhi's Karol Bagh, Rs 3.25 crore was seized in old notes Raids are being carried out across the country by the Income Tax Department in the wake of the burgeoning fake currency racket post demonetisation, as currencies both new and old have been seized in large amounts from Bengaluru, Panjim and Faridabad besides the national capital. Rs 2.25 crore has been seized in Bengaluru by the I-T Department in new currency, while Rs 68 lakh has been seized in Panjim. In Faridabad, four were arrested with new currency of over Rs 25 lakh in the new Rs 2000 notes. Meanwhile, in Delhi, yet another raid was carried out at a hotel in Karol Bagh following which the massive amount of Rs 3.25 crore was recovered in old notes. Upon interrogation it was found that the money belongs to some Bombay based hawala operators, who have hired packaging specialists who pack these notes in such a manner that it was even undetectable by airport scanning machines. The Karnataka Fire Department tweeted that it has sent over eight fire tenders to quell the blaze, shooting over the six storey complex of Biocon on Bengaluru outskirts. The extent of damage is still unknown. "A   fire broke at Syngene's labs   after office hours. No one hurt but fire has damaged labs and equipment. Infosys unveils modular e-commerce platform Software major   Infosys   Ltd on Wednesday unveiled a mobile first and modular platform to drive e-commerce programmes across retail channels. The platform has been developed by Skava, a Silicon Valley-based   e-commerce   start-up that the IT major acquired in June 2015 for $120 million, to enable businesses leverage cloud-based micro-services and white label applications to launch new offerings and improve conversion rates of digital channels. "The platform can integrate into present technologies, while providing a future-ready architecture for next-generation shopping experiences leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, natural language processing and virtual reality (VR)," the IT major said. Ola shuts down TaxiForSure business; lays off 700 employees India’s largest taxi aggregator, Ola, has shut down its   TaxiForSure   (TFS) business and has laid off 700 employees in the process, as it looks to consolidate its presence and reduce   cash burn   to fend off an attack from Uber. Ola   had acquired smaller rival TFS in March 2015 for $200 million to help it maintain market leadership against Uber. While Ola had said it would maintain TaxiForSure as an independent entity, the company soon began moving drivers from TFS to its own platform. The Economic Times newspaper first reported this story on Wednesday. Ola declined to comment on the story. Yahoo hires investment bank to sell 3,000 patents: Report Yahoo   has hired boutique investment bank Black Stone IP to sell about 3,000 of the internet company's patents, the   Wall Street   Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. The company has sent letters to a number of potential buyers for the patents, which date back to when the company was founded in 1996 and also include its original search technology, the report said. The deadline for bids for the   patent sale   has been set for mid-June by Yahoo, according to the Wall Street Journal. In March, Yahoo said it would explore the sale of $1 billion to $3 billion of patents, property and "non-core assets". Yahoo and Black Stone IP were not immediately available for comment.
