Eicher CEO downplays Bajaj claims, says not easy to unseat Royal Enfield

Enfield enjoys almost the entire 250-350 cc motorcycle market in country Royal Enfield, well known for its bullets, said it is not going to be easy for any new entrant to unseat the company. Bajaj Auto, which entered the 350-500cc motorcycle segment in December, claimed to have overtaken   Royal Enfield   in February in volumes. “If you look at the 250 cc plus motorcycle market in India, every 19 of 20 products are sold by us…that is a reality. It is not that easy to unseat someone who is doing this,” Siddhartha Lal, managing director and chief executive officer of Eicher (which owns Enfield) told   Business Standard . With a little over 5.26 lakh visitors, Auto Expo fails to pull crowds

India’s biggest auto extravaganza, the Auto Expo, which had attracted dozens of companies, came to a close on Tuesday, but not without concerns being raised over its declining popularity.  The week-long biennial event, promoted by the  Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), has largely been dubbed as a non-event this time with just 5,26,914 general visitors. The number was well short of expectations of the organisers, making it one of the worst in over two decades. Poor labourers pay the price for India's cheap car boom

In a dingy factory in the sprawling industrial hub of Manesar in northern India, a plastic moulding machine malfunctioned, mangling Visheshwar Prasad Singh’s right hand as he made parts for a supplier to the country’s major automakers. Singh was one of thousands of poor labourers, many temporary, who toil for 12 hours a day making auto parts for as little as $3-a-day to feed India’s cheap car boom. “I had no training to use the machine and was asked to operate it one day,” said the 51-year-old, who made parts for Ranee Polymers, supplying to Honda Motor and Yamaha Motor.  Read Full Article Over Here :  Business Standard News
