Two statues of communist icon Vladimir Lenin were brought down in South Tripura as the CPI(M) and its arch-rival in Bengal, the Trinamool Congress, blamed the BJP for the incidents Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday strongly condemned the incidents of vandalism of statues in parts of the country and spoke to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh over the matter. 4000 people rendered homeless due to flood in Tripura Around 4,000 people from 800 families were rendered homeless due to flood at Dharmanagar, the headquarters of North  Tripura  district, while the arterial Assam-Agartala National Highway remained water logged cutting the state off from the rest of the country. Due to incessant rain since Tuesday night, entire Dharmanagar town and its periphery were waterlogged and 4000 people took shelter in five relief camps, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Pradip Acharya told reporters. He said 10 boats were pressed into service to rescue the people in the affected areas and added that the water had started receding. Acharya said neighbouring Karimganj district in Assam was also affected by the flood and no vehicles could enter Dharmanagar from that side since yesterday and no long-distance buses plied from Dharmanagar. Strong 6.8 earthquake hits India's northeastern region, 5 dead

At least two people were killed and over 30 injured as a powerful  earthquake measuring 6.8  on the Richter Scale rocked Manipur and other north eastern states early today. “Public and private properties have been damaged. The district administration is on the job to rescue trapped persons,” Inspector General of Police Clay Khongsai said. Khongsai said they were yet to receive any report from Tamenglong district. Meanwhile, social network giant Facebook has activated its ‘Mark As Safe’ feature that allows people in the affected area to mark themselves as out of any danger on the social media platform.  According to the regional seismological centre in Meghalaya, an earthquake of moderate intensity rocked India’s northeastern states and adjoining Myanmar, Bangladesh and Bhutan Monday morning.
