SC admits plea challenging Salman Khan's acquittal in hit and run case Bollywood   superstar   Salman Khan   wanted the Supreme Court to hear the 2002 hit-and-run case against him on merit, his lawyer said on Tuesday. "The honourable Supreme Court had on the last date asked us whether Salman would consent to the Supreme Court hearing the case on merits. On Tuesday, we informed the honourable Supreme Court that we had taken instructions from our client Salman Khan and the matter should be heard on merits." "Accordingly, leave is granted and the final hearing will take place in due course," Salman's lawyer Anand Desai, from DSK Legal, said in a statement to   IANS. (more)

The Maharashtra government today told the Bombay High Court that it will file an appeal in the Supreme Courtagainst actor  Salman Khan ’s acquittal in the 2002 hit-and-run case.  The state government told the High Court that it will file a special leave petition in the apex court, The Hindureported.  The High Court had, on December 10, acquitted the actor of all charges in the case, in which one person sleeping on the pavement had been killed and four others injured.  “Prosecution has failed to prove any charges against Salman Khan,” the court had observed. It had also said that the prosecution had failed to prove that the actor had consumed alcohol and was driving his Toyota Land Cruiser when the mishap took place.
