Electric sparks: M&M flags issues with Tata Motors e-car pricing

Pawan Goenka says not sure about selling cars in phase-II M&M, which is competing with rival   Tata Motors Electric Cars   in the country’s largest electric car tender, said the company finds it “difficult” to comprehend the latter’s pricing in the tender. Tata Motors quoted a price of Rs 10.16 lakh for its electric Tigor sedan in the tender for 10,000 electric cars when M&M offered to sell its e-Verito at approximately Rs 12 lakh (both prices are exclusive of the goods and services tax). “This pricing is difficult for us to comprehend given the fact that we have been in the business for more than five years and have good knowledge about the industry,” Pawan Goenka, managing director at M&M, said in a conference call on Thursday. Birla, Mahindra defend conglomerate biz model

Mahindra & Mahindra rolls out KUV100, aggressively priced at Rs 4.42 lakh

Sports utility vehicle (SUV) market leader Mahindra & Mahindra today launched its compact KUV100 starting at Rs 4.42 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune), pitting it directly against popular hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. The vehicle, which will be the third product under four meters in length (Quanto and TUV300 being the other two) from the company has kept hatchback buying youth as its target customer who until today did not have the option of an SUV alternative.  Built at a cost of Rs 1,200 crore over a period of four years, KUV100 is the smallest Mahindra vehicle with seating capacity of a maximum of six people. This new SUV also marks the entry ofM&M into the petrol segment the engine of which was developed in-house. Diesel engine ban: SC order clears paths for registration of small cars

Diesel engine ban  :The Supreme Court order on Wednesday not only banned registration of diesel vehicles with engine capacity of over 2000cc until March 31, 2016, it also cleared the air on registration of smaller diesel vehicles. Recently, the National Green Tribunal ordered a ban on the registration of all diesel cars in Delhi. The green court had also asked the government to stop buying diesel cars in the national capital. The NGT was to review these provisional orders on January 6, 2016. But now that the Supreme Court order is out, NGT’s earlier directions have been overruled. The Bench of the apex court clarified it in as many words: “notwithstanding any order to the contrary passed by any court or authority or Tribunal whatsoever.” However, buyers of small diesel cars will have to pay higher pollution tax from next year.
