Volkswagen launches Ameo in sedan segment German carmaker   Volkswagen   made its entry into the compact sedan segment on Sunday with the Ameo, sparking a possible price battle with the segment leader, Maruti Suzuki’s Dzire. At an ex-showroom, Thane, price of Rs 5.14 lakh, theAmeo is cheaper than the Dzire priced at Rs 5.52 lakh. This is the first all-new model launch by Volkswagen in India after several years, after a struggle to go beyond its Polo and Vento models. It will be available in showrooms from next month. In the sub-four metre sedan segment, the Dzire has 55 per cent market share. The Volkswagen sedan will also be competing against the Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Tata Zest.. 7 Maruti models figure in top-10 passenger vehicles in April Maruti Suzuki   India maintained its leadership position in the domestic passenger vehicle (PV) market in April with seven of its models featuring in the top 10 selling brands last month. According to the latest data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), in the top 10 best passenger vehicles,   7 Maruti Models   Alto retained the top position in April with 16,583 units, as against 21,531 units in April last year. The company's premium hatchback Swift was the secondbest selling model with 15,661 units as compared to 18,444 units in April last year. Its compact car Wagon R was third, selling 15,323 units. The vehicle stood at fourth position in the year-ago period with 13,872 unit sales. Rival Hyundai's premium hatchback Elite i20 stood at fourth position last month with 11,147 units. Maruti Suzuki struggles to meet demand for Baleno

  Customers who booked the Baleno,  Maruti Suzuki ’s latest premium hatchback, may have to wait for up to six months for delivery. The company is struggling to meet demand and production can only be increased at the cost of other models. The country’s biggest car manufacturer is facing production constraints with the Baleno forcing it to juggleoutput between domestic and export markets. The Baleno is among the top selling cars with unserviced bookings of 55,000 units and sales of 44,000 units in just six months. Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) started exporting the hatchback in January to Europe and Japan, leading to lower supply in domestic market, a consistent fall since December. Domestic volumes of Baleno dipped 41 per cent in March to 6,236 units, lowest since its launch, compared with 10,572 units in December, the best month so far. With a little over 5.26 lakh visitors, Auto Expo fails to pull crowds

India’s biggest auto extravaganza, the Auto Expo, which had attracted dozens of companies, came to a close on Tuesday, but not without concerns being raised over its declining popularity.  The week-long biennial event, promoted by the  Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), has largely been dubbed as a non-event this time with just 5,26,914 general visitors. The number was well short of expectations of the organisers, making it one of the worst in over two decades.
