Mahendra Singh Dhoni steps down as India ODI, T20 captain

He will however be available for selection for 3-match ODI, T20 series against England Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as skipper of India's limited overs sides, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Wednesday. Dhoni, however, will be available for selection for the three-match One-Day International (ODI) and T20 International series against England, starting January 15. " Mahendra Singh Dhoni   has informed the BCCI, that he wishes to step down as the captain of the Indian Cricket Team from the One Day Internationals and the T20 Internationals formats of the game," a statement from the board read. "He will be available for the selection for the One Day and T20I series against England and the same has been conveyed to the Senior Selection Committee." Anurag Thakur new BCCI president Anurag Thakur was unanimously elected as the youngest Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president post-Independence, while Ajay Shirke was chosen as Secretary in a smooth change of guard at a time when the world's richest Board is sailing through choppy waters. The 41-year-old   Anurag Thakur   replaced Shashank Manohar who quit the position to take up the International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman's job. Chhattisgarh HC bats for IPL matches

    The   Chhattisgarh High Court   (HC) has rejected pleas challenging the hosting of Indian Premier League (IPL)cricket matches in the state on the ground that it was reeling under serious drought. The court has, however, put the condition that the event organisers, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Chhattisgarh State Cricket Association (CSCA), should arrange water for the matches including free drinking water to spectators. Neither the state government nor its agency would provide water for the event. A five-member committee has been constituted to ensure that the court's order is implemented. Read more.

BCCI recommends Virat Kohli for Khel Ratna, Ajinkya Rahane for Arjuna award

Kicked out of Maharashtra: How the Bombay High Court order will affect IPL 2016

The ninth iteration of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has run into the mother of all roadblocks — in the form of the   Bombay High Court 's Wednesday order that all IPL matches scheduled in Maharashtra after April 30 be shifted elsewhere in view of the severe drought in the state. The order came despite an assurance by the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) that IPL franchises of Mumbai and Pune had agreed to contribute Rs 5 crore to the chief minister’s drought relief fund. Additionally, the BCCI on Tuesday had assured the Bombay High Court that untreated sewage water would be used to maintain pitches for the seventeen IPL matches to be played in Mumbai and Pune. Shift all IPL matches out of Maharashtra after Apr 30, Bombay HC tells BCCI

The   Bombay High Court   on Wednesday ordered that all Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled in Maharashtra after April 30 be shifted elsewhere in view of the severe drought in the state. This gives the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) 18 days to look for new venues for 13 matches in May, including the final in Mumbai on May 29. The order came despite an assurance by the BCCI that IPL franchises of Mumbai and Pune had agreed to contribute Rs 5 crore to the chief minister’s drought relief fund. The court said: “We agree that merely shifting of IPL matches out of the state will not be a solution but this can be a beginning to address the drought situation in Maharashtra. Several people are dying because of water scarcity in the state. Lodha committee proposes sweeping reforms for BCCI

The Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee today recommended sweeping reforms for the controversy-ridden  BCCI , suggesting a bar on ministers from occupying positions, putting a cap on the age and tenure of the office-bearers and legalising betting. The committee has also proposed that BCCI be brought under the RTI Act so that it is made accountable to the government without hurting its autonomy. In a series of drastic reforms, the three-member panel, headed by Justice (Retd) R M Lodha, also suggested one unit should represent one state, while taking away the voting rights of institutional and city-based units. The committee also suggested the restructuring of the BCCI’s administrative set-up, proposing the position of a CEO accountable to a nine-member apex council.
