Opposition Prez candidate Meira Kumar files nomination papers today

She is slated to launch a campaign from the Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat on June 30 Opposition presidential candidate   Ram Nath Kovind VS Meira Kumar   on Wednesday filed her nomination in the presence of top Congress and opposition leaders. Kumar, who filed her papers with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on one side and former prime minister Manmohan Singh on the other, will launch her campaign from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat on June 30. Congress President   Sonia Gandhi   has hit out against the BJP in the controversy surrounding the Rs 3600 cr VVIP chopper deal. Calling the allegations against her attributed to an order by an Italian court as false, Sonia Gandhi said that she has nothing to hide. "I am not afraid as there is no base. All the allegation are false. This government is there from last two years, why is the government not completing enquiry.... 'Hindu daughters' need protection and the only way to ensure that is to enforce a two-child policy for all religions, Union minister   Giriraj Singh   was reported as saying on Wednesday by The Indian Express. "Daughters will not be safe and might have to be kept under the veil, like in Pakistan,” said the Bharatiya Janata Party leader, according to the report. The minister of state for micro, small and medium enterprises was speaking at a cultural yatra in Bagaha, West Champaran, and, according to the report, various Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh workers were present in the audience. National Herald case: Naturally, I will appear in court tomorrow, says Sonia Gandhi

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday confirmed that she will appear in court tomorrow in connection with the hearing of the   National Herald case . Replying to media, she said, “Naturally”. The National Herald newspaper was closely associated with India’s freedom struggle and the Indian National Congress till 2008. In January 2008, discussions about its closure began. On 1 April 2008, the paper’s editorial announced that it was temporarily suspending operations. Before its closure, the paper was being run by Associated Journals Limited (AJL). BJP leader Subramanian Swamy filed the case in a local court in 2012. The trial court then issued summons to the two leaders of the Congress amongst others in June 2014, but they approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay. On Monday this week, the high court refused to stay the summons, and asked all of the accused to appear for a hearing on December 19th.
