ISIS may plan Istanbul like attack in US: CIA

ISIS may plan Istanbul like attack in US: CIA The Islamic State terror group may carry out a terror attack similar to the one at Istanbul's Ataturk airport,   CIA   Director   John Brennan   has said. The despicable attack at Istanbul's   international   airport that killed dozens and injured several certainly bears the "hallmarks" of the Islamic State's depravity, Brennan said here yesterday. "We've seen ISIL (Islamic State) carry out and incite an array of terrorist attacks in the region, directly, indirectly and I would be surprised that ISIL is not considering carrying out these attacks in the near abroad as well as the far abroad," he said. "And the United States, as we well know, is leading the coalition to try to destroy as much of this poison, inside of Syria and Iraq, as possible. So it would be surprising to me that ISIL is not trying to hit us, both in the region as well as in our homeland," Brennan said while to repl...

Obama in Orlando to console grieving families

Image
Obama in Orlando to console grieving families President   Barack Obama   arrived in Orlando, where he will console loved ones devastated by a shooting rampage that has fueled America's culture wars and a fresh push for gun controls. Air Force One touched down shortly before 1:00 p.m. (1700 GMT) in Florida, where Obama will call for national unity and meet families whose lives have been ripped apart by a tragedy of national proportions. The massacre of 49 people at the   Pulse   nightclub last Sunday was the deadliest mass shooting in the history of a country that is depressingly familiar with such events. Another 53 people were wounded. "This will be, I think, an emotional trip," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. In a rare symbolic show of bipartisanship, Obama arrived with Republican one-time presidential hopeful   Marco Rubio   and was greeted on the tarmac by Republican Florida governor Rick Scott and Vice President Joe Biden. Obam...

Russia raids on Syria city kill 23 civilians

Russia raids on Syria city kill 23 civilians Russian warplanes pounded an Al-Qaeda-held city in northwestern  Syria  before dawn on Tuesday killing 23 civilians in the heaviest strikes in months, a monitoring group said. Dozens of civilians were also wounded in the raids on Idlib, a provincial capital held by  Al-Qaeda  affiliate  Al-Nusra Front  and its allies since March last year, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. Al-Nusra is not party to a Russian-and US-brokered ceasefire that went into force on February 27 between Moscow-backed government forces and Washington-backed non-jihadist rebels. "The air strikes are the most intensive on Idlib since the beginning of the truce," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman told. "Even though Idlib is not covered by the truce, it had been relatively calm with only intermittent raids," he added. The strikes hit near a hospital and a public garden. Moscow has been carrying out an air campaign...

UP has been turned into "Islamic state": Sena

Image
Lashing out at the  Akhilesh Yadav  government over Pakistani ghazal maestro Ghulam Ali’s concert in Lucknow, the Shiv Sena today branded Uttar Pradesh as an “Islamic state” and alleged that the state government has begun “anti-national business” for appeasing politics.  The ruling ally also took a swipe at the BJP for being a “mute spectator” to the event, and demanded that those who allowed the concert to take place should be booked for anti-national activities. “The ‘Islamic Yadav’ government says that Ghulam Aliwas invited to perform to promote Hindu-Muslim unity. But, to promote unity, why does one need Pakistani artists only? There are fine Muslim artists in the country who are famous,” an editorial in the Sena mouthpiece 'Saamana’ said. “Keeping the upcoming Assembly polls in mind, the Yadav government has started an anti-national business (of inviting Pakistani artists) to play appeasement politics,” it alleged. Further lashing out at the UP government, it sai...
