Dilwale-Bajirao clash at box office hurts both

Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale has done better than Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani in the opening weekend of what is being described as the biggest box-office clash of the year. However, a closer look reveals both the movies lost a part of their business due to the same-day launch. While Dilwale earned Rs 65 crore (net after tax), Bajirao Mastani made Rs 46 crore. Considering that both the movies have some of India’s biggest stars, it can be easily said that collection would have been better if the two films were released separately. Dilwale vs Bajirao  -With the similar actor-director combination, movies have done better business in recent past. In 2013, Chennai Express, which had Shah Rukh Khan as lead actor, earned Rs 227 crore, one of the best in that year. On opening day, Chennai Express collected Rs 33.1 crore, compared with Dilwale’s Rs 21 crore only. 'Dilwale' crosses Rs.100 crore mark worldwide; 'Bajirao Mastani' 'unstoppable'

Dilwale Vs Bajirao Mastani  : In the box office race, “Dilwale” has remained ahead of “Bajirao Mastani”. While the Shah Rukh Khan starrer crossed the Rs.100 mark worldwide in its opening weekend, the historical drama, featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, minted Rs.46.77 crore in India in three days. “Dilwale”, Rohit Shetty’s romantic action-comedy, has collected Rs.121 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. It’s India business stands at Rs.65.09 crore, and it made $8.5 million (approximately Rs.56 crore) came in from the overseas market. Both the films released on Friday. Starring Shah Rukh, Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in pivotal roles, “Dilwale” is receiving hearty response abroad, says trade analyst Komal Nahta. “Dilwale Overseas: Gulf - biggest ever opening for a Bollywood film, and the number one film this weekend, higher than ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ and other films,” Nahta posted on Twitter.
