Indian-origin lawyer shoots 9 in US, killed by police An Indian-origin lawyer with apparent Nazi sympathies went on an early morning rampage in US' Houston city shooting nine people on Monday before he was killed by police, according to authorities. Nathan Desai   was wearing military-style clothing with Nazisymbols during the 20-minute shooting spree when he fired at passing cars. Police said that they did not know why Desai went on the rampage hitting people at random. Desai's name was written with the 's' capitalised in media reports in Houston, making it sound European, but his father was identified as Prakash Desai. All of his victims survived but one person was critically wounded and five others were hospitalised, Houston's Acting Police Chief Martha Montalvo said. Obama meets Dalai Lama at White House US President  Barack Obama  met Tibetan Spiritual Leader the Dalai Lama at the White House, his spokesman said, underlining the meeting between the two Noble laureates does not change America's stand on Tibet. "This is actually the fourth opportunity that President Obama has had to meet with the  Dalai Lama  at the White House over the last eight years," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters at his daily news conference. "And I would just reiterate once again that the US's position, as it relates to Tibet has not changed. Tibet, per US policy, is considered part of the People's Republic of China. India denies visa to US commission to report on freedom of religion

A US agency on  religious freedom  scheduled to visit  India  to discuss and report on the conditions in the country has been denied a  visa  by the Indian government. A three-member delegation of US Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) wanted to make a one-week visit starting today to meet with government officials, religious leaders and activists in India. India tops global confidence index in Q4: Nielsen

For the fourth quarter in a row, India has topped global  consumer confidence index  as measured by research agency Nielsen in 2015. But the catch is that it continues to show signs of a recessionary sentiment for the third straight quarter. Nielsen’s just released report shows India’s consumer confidence index for the fourth quarter of 2015 was 131, ahead of the Philippines (117), Indonesia (115) and Thailand (114). White House doubts North Korea developed hydrogen bomb

The  White House  has expressed doubts over North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s claim that the country had developed hydrogen bomb. According to News.com.au, White House spokesperson Josh Earnest said that they are concerned about North Korea’s “destabilising actions” but added that available information “calls into serious question” on claims that Pyongyang has a thermonuclear device. During a recent inspection tour of a historical military site, Kim mentioned that North Korea was already a “powerful nuclear weapons state ready to detonate self-reliant A-bomb and H-bomb to reliably defend its sovereignty.” Earlier, North Korea has tested three atom bombs, which rely on nuclear fission. Kim said in a speech marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the ruling communist Workers’ Party on October 10, that he is prepared to wage war against the US if necessary.
