Shah Rukh Khan's Raees release date has been changed again, hopefully for the last time. Raees will release with Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil on January 25. The clock is ticking and the entire nation is waiting for the release of the much-anticipated trailer of Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. But even before that, we have got a shocking news that yet again, the filmmakers have decided to change the release date. Well, we were just praying that they do not push the dates forward since we and the fans would be disheartened but thankfully the date has been brought forward just by a day. The film, which was scheduled for January 26 release, will now reach a theatre near you on January 25. Well, seems like Shah Rukh is extremely confident about his film and is not shying away from the box-office clash with Hrithik Roshan’s upcoming Kaabil. It was just a few days ago when filmmaker Rakesh Roshan had mentioned that he is releasing Kaabil on the same date. Earlier, both the films were sched...

2015 ends on good note for Bollywood with 'Dilwale', 'Bajirao'

It was a mixed bag for  Bollywood in 2015  where content-driven films found space while superstars-led movies earned big bucks, with the year ending on a high note after the success of Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer “Dilwale” and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani”. Stars were seen experimenting in the big budget format as Salman ditched his action-man image to play a simpleton in “Bajrangi Bhaijaan”. He had another hit in “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo”, which was big on nostalgia so was Shah Rukh’s box office outing “Dilwale”, whose promotions were centered around his iconic chemistry with Kajol. The unusual father-daughter chemistry of Amitabh Bachchan and Deepika Padukone in “Piku” was loved by the audience, Akshay Kumar’s thriller “Baby”, based on covet operations and S S Rajamouli’s epic historical film “Baahubali” too received appreciation from people. Ajay Devgn-starrer “Drishyam” was also a major success. The year, however, truly belonged to Deepika as she had t...

Dilwale-Bajirao clash at box office hurts both

Image
Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale has done better than Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani in the opening weekend of what is being described as the biggest box-office clash of the year. However, a closer look reveals both the movies lost a part of their business due to the same-day launch. While Dilwale earned Rs 65 crore (net after tax), Bajirao Mastani made Rs 46 crore. Considering that both the movies have some of India’s biggest stars, it can be easily said that collection would have been better if the two films were released separately. Dilwale vs Bajirao  -With the similar actor-director combination, movies have done better business in recent past. In 2013, Chennai Express, which had Shah Rukh Khan as lead actor, earned Rs 227 crore, one of the best in that year. On opening day, Chennai Express collected Rs 33.1 crore, compared with Dilwale’s Rs 21 crore only. Similarly, Bhansali’s Ram Leela, with lead actors Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, collected Rs 15.1 crore on the...

Dilwale Vs Bajirao Mastani  : In the box office race, “Dilwale” has remained ahead of “Bajirao Mastani”. While the Shah Rukh Khan starrer crossed the Rs.100 mark worldwide in its opening weekend, the historical drama, featuring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone, minted Rs.46.77 crore in India in three days. “Dilwale”, Rohit Shetty’s romantic action-comedy, has collected Rs.121 crore in its opening weekend worldwide. Box office may see Rs 400-cr collection as Bajirao clashes with Dilwale

Image
With Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani releasing simultaneously on pre-Christmas weekend,  Shah Rukh Khan  and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are set for a major box office clash. But this is not the first time one of India’s top actors and one of India’s finest directors are fighting it out on the big screen. In 2007, Khan’s Om Shanti Om, a reincarnation drama with all the trappings of a masala flick, trounced Bhansali’sSaawariya, an interpretation of Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s White Nights. With Rs 90-crore business, OSO became one of the year’s highest-grossing movies. On the other hand, Saawariya failed to recover money. While history seems to be in favour of King Khan, no one can rule out Bhansali who has directed blockbusters likeDevdas and Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Both the movies have been mounted on Rs 100-crore-plus budget and both sides have put up unprecedented marketing campaigns, leading to a nail-biting contest. Analysts believe both the films have what it takes to be a top-grosser ...
