BharatQR, UPI, BHIM, NUUP: How these digital payment apps, services work

Image
The growth of digital payment services is fueled by introduction of apps and services by the NPCI As India leaps toward a digital economy, the adoption of digital payment platforms is on the rise as well. Before the demonetisation drive, which started on November 8, 2016, there were a handful of digital wallet services -- PayTm, FreeCharge and MobiKwik. But, none of them offered comprehensive   digital payments   structure and had their own limitations. As the government shifts focus toward cashless society, it also pushed a bouquet of digital payment options in the form of apps and USSD services like BharatQR code, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), BHIM app, and National Unified USSD Platform. Six advantages of using WhatsApp new video call

Image
The video call is end-to-end encrypted which means other than the sender and receiver no one can access it WhatsApp finally rolled out its  video calling  feature on Monday though slightly late to the party dominated by Facebook's own Messenger, Google's Duo, Skype, and Viber. But with its massive user base of more than one billion, Facebook's backing and other features similar to Snapchat like stories, animations, filters and graphics it can make up for the lost time. WhatsApp has more than 160 million users in India and they don't have to download other apps to make video calls anymore. WhatsApp has even said it has optimised the feature to handle the low-bandwidth internet connectivity and cheap phones used in most parts of India. Since  WhatsApp  chat is based on the phonebook contacts you don't have to deal with annoying call requests from anonymous people. The video call is end-to-end encrypted which means other than the sender and receiver no on...

Google launches Duo to take on Apple's FaceTime, Skype

Google launches Duo to take on Apple's FaceTime, Skype Knock, knock, Google's video chatting app has arrived. The app, dubbed Duo, represents   Google Duo   response to other popular video calling options, including Apple's FaceTime, Microsoft's Skype and Facebook's Messenger app. Duo   isn't much different from the other video chatting services, except that it gives a glimpse at who is making the call, helping the recipient decide whether to answer.   Google   calls this feature, "Knock, knock." The new app, announced in May, is being released Tuesday as a free service for phones running on Google's Android operating system as well as Apple's iPhones. Like   FaceTime   for iPhones, Duo only requires a person's phone number to connect. Many other services require both participants to have account logins to use their video calling options. Google has been offering video calling through its Hangout feature for several years, b...

Pokemon Go, getting you out of your couch

Image
Pokemon Go, getting you out of your couch Pokemon has made a strong comeback this year with   Nintendo 's location based game for Android and IoS called ' Pokemon Go '. Facebook's timeline, Instagram and Twitter feeds are loaded with hunters prying around streets catching pokemons in exchange for points and level ups. So, I wondered what the craze was all about and downloaded the .apk file (since the app   is yet to be released in India). While there is nothing to brag about the Interface of the game, the main highlight, in my opinion is that it makes you 'walk'. This is unlike any 'trending' game to have ever been released. I'm quite confident that if I keep playing on, not only would I have a handsome inventory of pokemons, my legs would thank me for finally getting my couch potato self outside. ( More )
